Not Your Grandma's Hybrid!

Check out this video on the racy new Chevy Volt. It gets 40 miles on one battery charge, after which a generator kicks in.  I am not entirely clear whether you can take a long road trip in this car, though.

  1. Peter Somberg - The generator is powered by a gas engine. It is strictly speaking NOT a well engineered Electric car. Especially when you consider that the previous incarnation of the Electric Car from "Goddamn Motors" was a truly remarkable piece of engineering called the EV1.

This thing took another 15 years to produce and gets half the range of it's ancestor while still being dependent on Gasoline. It's a sham.

Look at the CODA a new company building electric vehicles or the Leaf from Nissan, as well as the Mini Electric, and a few other EV's

The volt is a jolt in the teeth to those of us who had dreams of owning a true EV produced by GM.

Did you see "Who Killed the Electric Car"?

  2. Take this with a grain of salt. But after seeing this promo video, I'd have to totally disagree with this Autoboob guy.

Did you see "Who Killed the Electric Car"? Why would I pay $40,000 now for something that gives me half the daily range that a car built in 1994 could get without grasping onto and continuing our dependence on Oil? Is GM going to really say this is as good as the 'home team' can do? C'mon Generationally Mindless Motors! You're still not listening to your audience. If you build it we will really buy it. But the Volt? 10,000 may be fooled but not gonna be a game changer. JMHO, but I'll still stick to Natural Gas vehicles until they get it right and build a 100 range all electric vehicle that is Oil free.

And Autotoob, shame on you for being a plant...
